Maner
Located just 29 kilometers away from Patna, Maner is an Islamic pilgrim destination. Maner houses a shrine of 13th century Sufi Saint Maneri. His cenotaph at Bari Dargah is a popular tourist destination among his followers. There is one tomb of his disciple Shah Daulat which also attracts a number of tourists. These structures clearly manifest the influence of Mughal architectural style. Among various structures here Sangi Masjid is an architectural master piece.
Bodhgaya
Bodhgaya is one of the most important and sacred Buddhist pilgrimage center in the world. It was here under a banyan tree, the Bodhi Tree, Gautama attained supreme knowledge to become Buddha,the Enlightened One. most of the major events of his life, like enlightenment and last sermon, happened in Bihar. Buddhism as a religion was really born in Bihar and evolved here through his preaching and the example of his lifestyle of great simplicity, renunciation and empathy for everything living.
Nalanda
Nalanda, where ruins of the great ancient university have been excavated, is situated at a distance of 90 km.Nalanda was founded in the 5th century by the Gupta emperors. There were thousands of students and teachers. The subjects taught at Nalanda University covered every field of learning. The courses offered at Nalanda included the study of scriptures of Mahayana and Hinayana Schools of Buddhism, Brahminical vedic texts, Philosophy, logic theology, grammer, astronomy, mathematics and medicine.
Rajgir
Rajgir is a town located in Nalanda district of the state of Bihar. Literally meaning the 'house of king', Rajgir was the ancient capital city of the Magadha Kings until the 5th century B.C. when Ajatshatru moved the capital to Pataliputra ( now Patna). During that period, Rajgir was called as Rajgirh, which mean the 'home of Royalty' The mythological epic Mahabharata has called it Girivraja, besides, it has also been mentioned in Buddhist and Jain scriptures with different name.
Vaishali
Vaishali is said to be the first republic in human history. Vaishali had the concept of republican government much before the Greeks. Vaishali is located at a distance of 55 kilometers from the capital city of Patna. Lord Buddha stayed here for quite some time during his search of truth. Vaishali is also associated with Lord Mahavira, the 24th Tirthankara. The sedate town of Vaishali was named after King Visala who was mentioned in epic of Ramayana.
